What really drew me in wasn’t just the stories, but the vision behind Bonanza.
David Dortort pitched the idea of a series set on a Nevada ranch, on the shores of Lake Tahoe, in the years following the 1859 discovery of gold and silver in Virginia City—the Comstock Lode. But instead of focusing on a single hero, he chose something very different: four central characters—a father, widowed three times, and his three sons.
The goal of Bonanza was not simply to entertain, but to tell the story of the American West with authenticity. As Dortort himself described it, it was about portraying “one of the great migrations of all time” with accuracy—focusing on real lives, real struggles, and the values of a family.
That’s exactly the spirit I’d like to bring into this network: a place where these stories, values, and deeper meanings can be shared, explored, and kept alive together.
